Tis the season for baked goods! Whether you’re whipping up something special to share at an upcoming holiday gathering or simply feel the urge to warm up your kitchen with the comfort of something piping hot to balance out these cold days, we have the book for you. A Year of Pies offers up a full year of seasonal, natural recipes for pies and tarts both sweet and savory utilizing the best of what each season has to offer. A total of 60 recipes are included, 15 for each season. Classics are covered, but with Ashley English’s unique culinary spin. It would make a perfect holiday gift for that foodie friend on your list.

Learn much more about A Year of Pies in my earlier post here and view some of the great praise the book has garnered here.

To further celebrate the holiday season, we wanted to provide a chance to win an autographed copy of the book. Just leave a comment on this blog post by 9 p.m. EST on Sunday, December 15. Any comment will do, but why don’t you tell us your favorite kind of pie or a fond pie memory. One lucky winner will be selected at random and announced on Monday, December 16. My son, the household lover of pie, would love it if I won this book. He’d immediately start plotting our baking.

I love pumpkin or apple crumble pie the best, although I haven’t met a pie I didn’t like yet, LOL!

My favorite pie is French Silk Chocolate. Although I have a recipe which I found about 10 yrs ago that makes a killer Coconut Cream Pie that even two people in my own family who hate coconut absolutely LOVE. That pie is pretty close to my favorite too.

My birthday is April 13th; my best friend’s dad’s birthday was April 12th. For many years, he and I would share pie on his birthday as we celebrated each other. Now it’s a tradition I carry on symbolically for both of us.

P.S. I love this cookbook, and hope to share an autographed copy with a very dear friend who will love it as much as I do.

    Olivia Sporinsky says:

My brother & I shared a house for a couple years when we first left home. I started making pies as a way to strengthen my baking skills and Justin was the happy recipient of those efforts. My apple pie creation involves letting the apples marinate in the cinnamon and sugar while the oven preheats. My brother would slip into the kitchen & drink the cinnamon-apple juice out of the bowl! Now, whenever he visits, his first request is that I bake an apple pie and save him some of the juice!

    Adrian O says:

I love pies! This book would be great for me. I love apple pie, but all pies are great.

I love all kinds of pie, but I really loved how my grandma would make “tootsie rolls” with the left over pie dough — just rolled out dough with cinnamon and sugar. Simple & delicious!

    Cat K. says:

This year I made 4 pies for my husband’s birthday, and we invited all of our friends over to help us eat them. We want to make this an annual event, so I definitely need more pie recipes!

    Rosie Banks says:

I love all pies! I love making pies with whatever is in season. Apple pies are always special, though. The crispness of the fall air and the deliciousness of the smell and taste of an apple pie … Nothing compares!

    Terri says:

How to pick a favorite pie…umm, I would have to go with the classic apple pie!

    mary carolyn says:

My favorite sweet pie is lemon meringue. But I also love savory pies like chicken pot pie. It’s a great way to use up left-overs.

    Hobbygirl Dolls says:

My favorite pie is pumpkin pie. We are from the northeast and pumpkin pie was always served for dessert at Thanksgiving along with a big dollup of whipped cream. Yum!

    Karen markgraf says:

One of the best pies I ever had was the keylime at the Bubble Room on Captiva. Really cooled off my sunburned soul.

love pecan pie! Though it has been fun to grow our own pumpkins and bake them into pies as well

    Karen Denson says:

    My fondest memory”
My Great Grandmother used to make the most beautiful pies I have ever seen. When I was a child I loved to go to her place especially right after she had just pulled a pie from the oven. The crusts were always the most beautiful golden brown, and the top crust always had some type of design carved in the center. Most of the time it was a beautiful tree. No matter what it was, they were always perfect. I have tried to make pies like Great Grandma, and sometimes I come close, but I don’t think I will ever become the artist that she was.

I enjoy, cause I discovered just what I used to be looking for. You have ended my 4 day long hunt! God Bless you man. Have a great day. Bye
