Felt Letters Giveaway

March 25, 2011, 13:11 pm  Posted by Lark

Want to win the word F-E-L-T in handcrafted 3-D? Or how about a felt fridge magnet alphabet created by yours truly? Keep reading for the story behind the felted letters you see above and for details on the exciting giveaway … and for more on how YOU can enter for a chance to win.

This is the sketch I sent requesting a special three dimensional version of the word felt. Jeanette did an awesome job of bringing it to life, and now one lucky winner can have it for themself.

Not only is felt craft mastermind Jeanette Lim feltastically creative, she is also a wonderfully collaborative author to work with. While I was working as Art Director on the design for her new book Big Little Felt Universe I wanted something more than a regular ole’ font. I put in a special request asking Jeanette to create a three dimensional version of the word FELT. I sketched it up and emailed it along hoping that it wasn’t too much to ask—and Jeanette whipped it up just like magic. Now that the book is complete this creative exchange seemed like a perfect opportunity to share the fun by offering it up to one lucky person.

But I couldn’t stop there. I’d caught the felt fever! I had to make my own felt alphabet (although not in 3-D) for the project titles in the book design. I drew and cut out each letter and scanned them into a digital format. Afterward, making the little felt alphabet into a fridge magnet set seemed the next logical step … and another great giveaway offer.

Around the office, we’ve been discovering that there is one tricky part using the felt alphabet: none of the letters can be used more than once for each word. When you go to spell out words, you can’t repeat any letter! Daunting. Although there are plenty of short words, a quick web search offered up longer words like dermatoglyphics. Wow, I wouldn’t have come up with that one on my own!

We are pleased to be giving away a magnetic felt alphabet to one winner and the word FELT in 3-D to another winner. To be entered for a chance to win, leave a comment on this post by 9 p.m EST on Monday, April 4. Any comment will do. But here’s a creative challenge for you, should you wish to partake: when leaving a comment to win, see how many words you can spell without repeating a letter. One winner will be selected at random for each giveaway and contacted on Friday, April 8. Click here for the official rules.
