FOCUS: Love Giveaway

February 01, 2011, 09:00 am  Posted by Lark

For many centuries and across cultures, the heart icon has served as a symbol of union, togetherness, passion, love, spirituality and even the essence of the human soul.

Who among us hasn’t spent time prepping a Valentine’s Day card featuring a heart shape cut from colorful paper? Is it even possible to look at a heart without softening just a little into a smile?

The evocative shape takes center stage in our book, FOCUS: Love, one of the books in our series showcasing digital photographers in their quest to see the world around them with perceptive eyes. Whether crafted by human hands, formed by nature or simply pulled together from our own need to make sense from the highly visual world around us—graffiti scrawled on an alleyway wall, the sloping curves of an iron gate, shapes cut from paper by a child, worn stones scattered on a forest floor—hearts can be found almost everywhere … as long as you’re looking. You’ll find 250 photographs by 150 photographers from 30 different countries within the pages of  this book.

Check out this fun little book teaser to view some of the book’s wonderful imagery:

We’re giving away one copy of FOCUS: Love. So, how do you enter for a chance to win? Leave a comment on this post by 9 p.m. EST on Monday, February 7. Any comment is fine, but you’re welcome to leave a comment letting us know how you plan to celebrate Valentine’s Day this year. One winner will be selected at random and notified on Tuesday, February 8. Click here for  the official rules. And good luck! Congratulations to Susan Hahaj for winning the book!

We will snuggle on the sofa, our family of 3, and try to avoid open comment on what feels like the hyper-speed development of our tween daughter into a beautiful woman, as this embarrasses her naturally, and merely admire her quietly, while exchanging glances between mom and dad. They tell you childhood speeds by for parents, but you don’t really get it, until you’re in it. You feel as if you kept watching, you would literally see it happen, as with time-lapse photography. The love we feel for her is so full of gratitude and humble awe, it overflows — while the bittersweet pang of knowing you must begin the letting go in earnest tugs and sends pangs into your heart.

we will sneak in some kid-free time to celebrate, enjoy cards that we have made each other and eat a lovely meal made with produce from our garden, maybe even by candlelight!… well I hope so anyway – the kids will wake up just after they have gone to bed, one will try and bend one of our cards or take it, and there will be lots of noise – and that will confirm our romance and love and the wonder of our kids!
