On the Road Again

Looking at a particularly nasty winter in the rear view window and with school freshly out, my thoughts have turned to summer vacation. Summer vacation gets my family out of the daily routine and gives us an excuse to throw health conscious eating out the window and indulge in what the destination has to offer. While I love GPS’s, I always also take along maps, they don’t need batteries or recharging. And as you can see, some Etsy folk can do some pretty clever things with them, making them a great souvenir.

There is something about maps isn't there?…I particularly love the luggage tags in this spread! A new Egg Cream “Farmacy” opened on our corner and they sell really cool vintage maps (in addition to Ginger Syrup, pickled items, and other deliciousness). My husband was looking through them and found one from Copenhagen in 1964, which is where he is from and the year he was born! So random! Thanks for sharing these map art pieces!

I love the use of maps, they can symbolize so much— a specific place or location, the general act of travel, or even a time period. Thanks for sharing some great examples.

As an art teacher, I am into recyling and reusing. The map crafts shown are great ideas! We have many National Geographics donated to the art room and now I have some ideas for them!

Great inspiration! I was lucky enough to get my hands on a bunch of old maps that were being discarded from a school a few years ago, but they've just been sitting in the basement. Time to get crafty! :-)
