PUSH Series

From PUSH Paper: Wheelchair by Chris Gilmour. Life size. Photo by Marco De Palma.

In his Q&A discussion with PUSH Paper juror Jaime Zollars, Chris Gilmour tells a funny story in response to the question “What responses do you get to your work?” He says, “People always want to touch it. I think the best example of this was with a wheelchair that was in a show in Milan. One elderly gentleman was so taken with the work that he couldn’t resist trying it–of course the moment he sat on it, and it broke to pieces, the illusion was shattered. It was the end of that piece, but it’s nice to get people so enchanted with the work.”

In a way, this is exactly how we hope you feel about PUSH, our beautiful new gallery series that just came out this week with the release of PUSH Paper and PUSH Stitchery–that you’ll want to pick them up, touch them, and be completely enchanted with the amazing artwork you’ll discover inside. And the good news is, they are not an illusion! We’ve worked steadily on these books for the past year and a half and would love nothing more than to give you, our Lark Crafts readers, the chance to win a copy of the first two books in the series. Read on to find out how to enter!

For a chance to take a peek inside each book, look at my post from last week, and click on the pages at the bottom to see work from Peter Callesen, Elsa Mora, and Daniel Sean Murphy for PUSH Paper and Cecile Jarsailon, Diem Chau, and Peter Crawley for PUSH Stitchery.

From PUSH Stitchery: Waking with You . . . by Joetta Maue. Photo by artist.

There are 30 artists showcased in each PUSH book and you’ll be stunned at the range of work contained in each volume. Not to mention the insights and asides from each artist about their work, their artistic motivations, and even their obsessions.

In celebration of the release of PUSH Paper and PUSH Stitchery we are giving away one copy of each book to one lucky reader. To enter for a chance to win this giveaway, please leave a comment on this post by 9 p.m. EST on Thursday, September 15th. Any comment is fine, though we’d love to know what other PUSH books you’d like to see in this series. One winner will be selected at random from among all eligible entries and notified by Monday, September 19th. Click here for the official rules http://www.larkcrafts.com/craft-your-life/uncategorized/sweepstakesrules/.  Comments are closed–thanks to all who shared their thoughts!

Good luck and keep checking back for more images, interviews, and surprises from PUSH.

I’m not entering since I don’t live in USA, but I want to come with tips on other books. Metalwork, clay, woodworking, glass, and another thing I always find facinating is those that can take a piece of scrap, or trash, and make it wonderful, can’t remember the name of the artitst. Most of these themes are already made into books, but I don’t think anybody minds new and gret books.
