Sometimes it’s easy to fall into the grass-is-greener mentality, especially when it comes to things we can’t really change about ourselves. For me, this involves a pretty intense wish that I had been born tan and impervious to the sun (like my childhood best friend, Alli, whose brown eyes, brown hair, and impeccably perfect tan were just part of who she was in the summer). Alas, I was born fair and freckly, prone to sunburns and blue-eyed squintiness. My mom was a big advocate for SPF 2,000, and she balanced this out with making me wear a t-shirt UNDER my swimsuit as a kid. Sheesh.
Now that I’m a bit older and can mostly appreciate my constellation-making freckles, I have an eagle eye out for other folks who also can’t claim that fresh-from-the-beach bronze.
Have you seen people walking around town enjoying the delightful shade of a cute/artful parasol? I have. And I’m totally smitten. Here’s a collection of images and handmade works inspired by these lovely things on Etsy.
AND, here’s a link to the blog of Alisa Burke, one of the designers featured in Where Women Create: Book of Inspiration. She has a sweet tutorial about adorning a paper parasol in your own signature fashion here.
