Welcome to our second week of Crochet Love Along updates! Our projects are starting to look like…well…projects. And some of us are starting to feel the love, sort of.

Shannon (who is making the Skinny Scalloped Scarf): I’m about halfway through my Skinny Scalloped Scarf, and it’s looking…ok. I started to get the hang of crocheting the closed scallops right about the time I finished them. I’ve started on the second part, the open scallops, and I’m sure I’ll get the hang of them right about the time I finish that row. It’s really fun, though, and I’m not expecting perfection from myself. (I’m leaving that to Dawn, who is already on her third project, blast her!) And I’m thinking about which crochet project I want to tackle next. My little girl wants me to make the Missoni-Inspired Necklace for her, so I’ll probably take a stab at it and see what happens!

Dawn (who made the bear ears headband…and moved onto her second and third project already!): I’ve made two hats since last week! I would’ve started crocheting years ago had I known I’m capable. Time for a break, or time to make something bigger/more challenging?

Beth (who is working on the washcloth from the soap saver set): I’m making progress, slowly but surely!

Amanda (who is working on some fishies from the fish mobile): Hey, look…it kind of looks like a fish!! I’m moving slowly but thankfully, these fishies work up pretty quickly. I’d have been done a long time ago, but, admittedly, I keep hopping around to other last-minute gifts: a set of coasters as a wedding gift, a birthday beret for my niece, and an albatross of an afghan (granny squares!) that I started and am determined to finish in time for Christmas. More progress next week, I promise!

And now for the fun stuff… For a chance to win a copy of Crochet Love, simply comment on this blog post: any comment will do but we’d love to hear why you love crochet! Leave your comment/entry by 11:59 EST on Tuesday, October 15th. One winner will be selected at random from among all eligible entries and contacted Wednesday, October 16th. Today, we’re celebrating the release of Iris Schreier’s Reversible Knits. Now available as a paperback, this book combines the best of a dynamic technique with stunning-yet-wearable projects. Using six key techniques, you can make a whole collection of versatile items. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Bowery Trio: a cowl and cuff set that’s bold on one side, subdued solid on the other
  • Charcoal Mobius Collar: a sophisticated collar with a striped pattern and a subtle twist
  • ZigZag Posh Shrug: knitted chevrons that go from day to night seamlessly
  • Shoji Wrap: an accessory that’s airy but substantial, romantic but modern

And today, we’re offering a lovely giveaway: up for grabs, a copy of the book and 2 skeins of silk mohair from ArtYarns, perfect for making the book’s light and airy Gossamer Collar project (at right). Come in for a closer look at this yarn, folks…it’s positively sumptuous!

For a chance to win the book and the yarn, simply comment on this blog post: any comment will do! Leave your comment/entry by 11:59 EST on Friday, September 20th. One winner will be selected at random from among all eligible entries and contacted Monday, September 23rd. Click here for the official rules. Thanks to everyone who entered! We’ve noticed that it’s sometimes easier to keep new years’ resolutions when you’ve made the commitment with someone else. We’ve also found that it’s more fun crafting as a group (here on the needlearts teams, we’re learning to needle felt and crochet together). And how about the best of both worlds: keep your crafty resolutions intact and enjoy some group creativity. This week, we’re picking one lucky winner to receive four copies of Quilt It with Love – one to keep and three to give away. Spread the Project Linus love, spread the quilt inspiration, and spread the crafty goodness… craft it forward, friends!

To enter to win four copies of Quilt It with Love (one copy for you and one copy for three friends), leave a comment on this post between now and 9 p.m. Thursday, January 31st. Any comment is fine, but we’d love to hear about a time when you’ve had fun crafting as part of a group. One winner will be selected at random from among all eligible entries and announced by Monday, February 4. Click
