St. Patty’s Day finds: Green Necklaces on Etsy

March 15, 2013, 14:46 pm  Posted by Lark

When it comes to Saint Patrick’s Day, there’s a pretty clear theme: GREEN. Green everything! Lucky green socks, green shamrock glasses, green everything-you-wear, green food, green beer, green green green. (One more for good luck: green!)

In the festive spirit of St. Patty’s Day and its green, green theme, I took a stroll through Etsy and feasted my eyes on these lovely necklaces. From a pale, delicate seafoam to a deep, forest pine, there’s quite a beautiful spectrum of greens to be found, and these pretty accessories truly capture a variety of styles, textures, shapes, and personalities.

Thank you to the Etsy sellers mentioned below for sharing these charming green necklaces, and Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to you all!

Seeds of Creativity: 10 Etsy Favorites

February 26, 2013, 12:49 pm  Posted by Lark

.

I’m going to come right out and tell you, I set out to do a gardening post today. Maybe some ideas for gardening in small spaces or instructions for building a wooden planter of some kind. After all, it’s getting to be about time to start our seedlings. But, for most of us, it isn’t quite time yet. And I just wasn’t feelin’ it yet. So, instead of forcing it, I’ve decided to collect a bunch of fertile, seedy beauty from around the Etsy-sphere to help us all get into the gardening mood. (Thanks for the brilliant idea, Beth!)

.
This. I have to have this. I wish I knew what kind of berries the artist (Cynthia Del Giudice) used, because I want to learn everything about this piece (and the matching earrings). This is just my kind of pretty—so basic and natural, and earthy.

Brilliant! Paper artist Erin Groff packs a wide variety of ornamental, edible, and medicinal wildflowers into these 3.75 x 6.75-inch sheets of handmade art for your art!

Staff Picks: My 5 Favorite Lark Books

February 15, 2013, 13:22 pm  Posted by Lark

You know you’ve got a good thing going on when you’re asked to write a blog post about your favorite Lark books, and it takes you all of 10 seconds to come up with the list.

Here are my top five “staff picks” and why I love them dearly, as in, I can’t imagine my life without these books. Please excuse the personal element of all my stories, but isn’t that why anyone falls in love with a book? Because of some special little connection, quote, or start of something new…

1000 Rings

This book introduced me to Lark. I wanted to design my own wedding ring and needed inspiration—1000 Rings offered more than I could have imagined. It sparked my creativity for a design and began my path to a job in the publishing world. I discovered that Lark was in Asheville, North Carolina, by reading the copyright page (dorky, I know). In fine print, it says that if the reader has any questions to contact Lark, and the address follows. In fact, yes, I do have a question: Will you please hire me?! I stalked several editors until they let me in the door, finally landed a scary group interview, and soon moved south with my fiancé in tow. It’s five years later and those editors are my beloved colleagues and friends—all because of a ring (or 1000 of them, I guess).

A is for Apron

I love this book because it gave my co-workers and me a reason to get together and sew during lunch breaks one winter. We all decided on an apron to make, lugged our sewing machines to the office, and set up shop on the top floor of our building. During those lunches, we yapped about life, discussed office politics, and somehow ended up with several adorable creations. It was the perfect (and totally unexpected) example of that happy little place where team building meets therapy!

We're so proud of these beautiful aprons!

Put a Ring on It: Resin Rings

February 14, 2013, 11:40 am  Posted by Lark

Happy Valentine’s Day, friends.

Wait, let me try that again: Happy Be-Kind-To-Each-Other-All-The-Time, everybody.

There.

Yesterday was my first in a four-day exploration of the beauty of eye-catching, intriguing rings and their unique role as a symbol of love worldwide. During this Season of Love, our thoughts turn to how we give and receive love, and we have a heightened opportunity to focus on the people we love best in our lives. Pretty great, right?

Valentine’s Day isn’t limited to romantic love, and just like we are connected through love to many dear people, rings aren’t limited to just one style, material, or function. Yes, those sparkly traditional diamond rings are lovely, but there’s so much character and personality in the un-traditional, the unexpected, the “woah, that’s awesome.”

Today I explore the wide, stunning world of resin rings—bright pops of color, platforms for precious flowers, and vessels of gold—these beauties are meant to steal your affection and never give it back.

A very big thank you to the talented, innovative Etsy artists featured below—what creative vision you all have!

Put a Ring on It: Petite Rings

February 13, 2013, 16:33 pm  Posted by Lark

Greater poets and thinkers before me have said this more eloquently, I’m sure, but it’s my belief that love is the common thread that brings us together.

You work because maybe you love your career field, or maybe you’re supporting your family, or maybe you really really love trips to the Outer Banks and your job gets you there.

You create because you love the process, or you thrive on the challenge, or you simply can’t not bring artfulness and innovation into the world.

You connect with other people because it’s human nature, or you love the sense of being rooted in community, or maybe you feel it’s the main reason why any of us are here in the first place.

Whatever you do, wherever you go, however you prioritize the unique elements of your very own Big Picture in Life, chances are they’re tied to the concept of love, and we’re all connected by that commonality—love really is what brings us together.

It’s pretty great that we have a holiday that celebrates this concept, and I like to think that Valentine’s Day causes each of us to reflect on love at least a little bit, especially if it extends beyond romantic love into the realms of good friends, treasured family, favorite vet techs and librarians and next-door-neighbors and teachers and colleagues and mentors and musicians and purring cats and wiggly dogs and, well, everyone.

With all of this in mind—all this Love stuff—I’ve been thinking about how we symbolize it and communicate it. Hearts, cards, flowers, and chocolate are a big deal during this time of year, and so are rings. So I decided to do some (super delightful) meandering through Etsy where I collected images of eye-catching rings, rings that might not be your typical sparkly proposal diamond, but instead were beautiful in unexpected ways.

Today is the first of four days of my ring finds, and I thank the incredibly talented artists mentioned below for creating such thoughtful, intriguing, stunning, sweet, novel, and phenomenal work.

High five, Etsy, and Happy Season of Love, everyone.

…by the way, if you decide that you need to listen to a certain amazing pop star while reading this post, no one’s gonna stop you.

Spring into Summer Jewelry

April 20, 2011, 17:30 pm  Posted by Lark Jewelry & Beading

For My Dolly, Barefoot Sandals

The Shag Bag, Cuff Bracelets

Märta Mattsson, Brooch: Reversed Beauty

Cherry blossoms, baby bunnies, and bare feet…Oh yes, it’s springtime! And if this warm and fuzzy feeling wasn’t enough to melt the heart of a certain editor who shall remain nameless, it’s also jewelry trade show season…and spring book release season…and summer jewelry season…

—stream of conscious writing comes to a screeching halt—

What? Summer jewelry? Jewelry has a season? Wait a minute…can jewelry be seasonal?
