Concrete + Jewelry = Unlikely Bedfellows

4 necklaces using concrete

When I think of concrete, I think big. I think of cities, roads, foundations, stadiums, and bridges. I don’t think jewelry. So when I saw my first piece of jewelry that incorporated concrete, I had to look further into the subject. I love the idea of a substance that I usually think of as massive, used on a precious scale. It’s seems an unlikely jewelry making material, but the results can be quite delicate and beautiful. Many of the artists also seem to embrace an idea of architectural structure in their work that I find very intriguing. Here are some great examples I’ve found.mosaic of concrete jewelryTop photo martadesignsdenver

these pieces are beautiful!!! I also think its interesting to combine a material primarily used en mass to a small scale decorative piece. It shows the few bounds there are when creative artists are at play! thanks so much for this piece

I, too, would like to see more about this, maybe a little instruction on how to begin, what processes to use with the concrete, how to buff and smooth. What kind of finish to put on it? PLEASE!!
