Art and Fashion

I’m not really into fashion, per se. But, there is one designer of haute couture that so delights me, I consider his designs more works of art than fashion. The mix of pattern and color is truly inspirational. Perhaps it’s because he started out studying art history (dissertation topic: Costume in 18th-century French painting). In any event, and fortunately for us all, he ended up designing clothes rather than studying paintings of them.

I’m speaking of Christian Lacroix, who closed his fashion house last year, after 20 years of designing haute couture. Anyway, today seemed like a good day to show, if not a retrospective of his work, at least a few of the dresses that made me love him.

Check out Style.com for more images of his work

The man himself. What’s not to love about a man who can wear black velvet?

This is one of those times I wish there was a “love” button. What an incredible artist. Thanks for reminding me, and thanks for this post! Just the color shot I needed as my summer garden fades.

A friend of mine says I'm always on the cusp of wearing costumes when I go out. This is exactly what I would like to evolve to. The whimsy, the pop, the outrageous juxpositions of color and embellishments. Wonderful! Amazing!
