What can I say that hasn’t already been said? The best season of the year just caught Asheville by surprise. We’re excited about the weather, leaves, books, and just things in general. As a former Floridian, I understand what it’s like to live in a place where leaves don’t necessarily tell you the season–but thanks to the magic of the internet, you can pretend along with us with the Foliage Report.
As for the fall-inspired quilting project, this week’s comes from one of our favorite designers: Aimee Ray. A multi-talented artist, her new book Doodle Stitching: The Motif Collection just hit shelves on Tuesday. Check out the book, the free project from Pretty Little Mini Quilts, and a short Q&A with Aimee after the hop jump.

Aimee, we chose this project because the first days of fall always put a hop in our step. What was your inspiration behind this design?
I have always been fascinated with nature–it’s always an inspiration in everything I do! I think the bunny with branch ears came from a random doodle in my sketchbook.
And since we already brought it up, what’s your favorite season and why?
I LOVE autumn! It’s such a relief after a hot summer to have cool days again. I love changing leaves, acorns, warm drinks, and cold nights wrapped up in a quilt.
Last but not least, what are you working on at the moment?
I’m always working on lots of different things at once; one project in the works is some embroidered plush animals.
