Mushroom Love: a sweet giveaway!

February 07, 2013, 15:16 pm  Posted by Lark

I try hard not to have favorites when I’m working on a craft book with projects, but when I saw this Valentine’s Day brooch Lisa Jordan designed for Heart-Felt Holidays, our follow-up to Fa la la la Felt, I fell deeply in love. The yard I played in as a child was bordered by the Appalachian Trail on one side and on the other side of that was a forest.  I’ve been charmed by toadstools since I was young enough to believe fairies played beneath them.

Heart-Felt HolidaysIf you’ve already bought Heart-Felt Holidays, grab some floss and felt and flip to page 26—this Mushroom Love Brooch is easy to make in just five steps and all the templates are included. If you haven’t bought the book yet, jump on over to B&N.com or Amazon and get a copy for under $10. It’s filled with holiday projects, including more for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, and Easter, too.

To officially ask our blog readers to be our Valentine, we’re giving away Lisa’s brooch from the book along with a signed copy of Heart-Felt Holidays. To enter, simply leave a comment on this post between now and 9 p.m. EST Sunday, February 10th. Any comment is fine, but, if you’re inspired to, tell us what crafty thing you’re loving right now: a tool, a trend, a particular designer, etc. One winner will be selected at random from among all eligible entries and announced by Monday, February 11th. Click here for the official rules, and good luck!

this is such a sweet book. I’ve been crocheting, and wanting to add embroidery to my work and this book would teach some new stitches to add to my repetoire of stiches… looks like a beautiful book- thanks for the opportunity to win it.

The brooch is darling, would love to have it and the book. I love working in felt, can one of your designers make a cute peacock pattern for us to sew?

      Kathy Sheldon says:

Hmm, I love the idea of a felt peacock, Cynthia. I’ll have to see what we can come up with.

    Genevieve Grove says:

Adorable! I’ve been in love with crewel lately.

I have been playing with leather lately – and hand sewing…. I think leather mushrooms would be awesome! ROFL :)

You should check out my co-worker Nathalie Mornu’s book Leather Jewelry:

I’m loving all of the embroidery I’m seeing online and in books now. I haven’t tried it since my teens, but I think I will now. Great to have a portable project. Thanks for the charming giveaway!

Felt is great to work with, easy to stitch and no fraying! The hardest part of stitching on felt is coming up with ideas…Your giveaway book would solve that problem!

    Melissa Graham says:

I’ve been making a lot of goodies with felt and would love to have this book.

I’m just learning how to knit and am making an infinity scarf – love it!

      Kathy Sheldon says:

Ooo, I’ve been wanting an infinity scarf. I’ve been hoping Amanda, my co-author for Heart-Felt Holidays and Fa la la la Felt might knit one for me!

    dailychocolate says:

That’s a really sweet mushroom. Falalala Felt was a great book, so it’s nice that other holidays are getting recognition! In other news…my latest interest is in making vintage style crochet potholders – copying from very old existing ones if necessary.

    Beth T. says:

I am loving working with wool, in small pieces. Felt is next!

What a darling brooch! I’m working on several embroidery projects this year. It’s embroidered blocks that will be made into four different quilts.

Thank you for a neat giveaway and a chance to win.

    Marie Waterman says:

I like the mini pre-cut fabric squares that are 2 1/2″. I can use them singly for fusible applique, sew them together and applique on a background, or layer them as the top layer over a larger fabric or felt square. Would love to win this useful book!

    Penney Bidwell says:

Love these cuties. The book looks fantastic.

    Jonquil says:

I’m going back & forth between counted cross-stitch piece, adding beads to 3 stocking faces, & deciding which felt ornaments to make for this years’ tree.

So sweet! I want to make that!

    Terri Mason says:

I love needle art and beads, especially when I can combine them in one piece :)

    Melissa says:

I am making capes for my grandson and a neighbor child who is special to us. Hers is purple kinda-silk and his is kinda-satin. I am a beginner at sewing clothing, so I’m nervous! 8*)
