The DeStash Diaries, Vol. 20 — Big Love
February 08, 2011, 12:03 pm Posted by needlearts Get ready for lots of hearts in the next week or so, being so close to V
alentine’s Day and all. Amanda is posting lots of fun and awwww-inspiring free projects over the next few days (hope you didn’t miss this one from yesterday), and I wanted to share a romantic fabric card I put together a few years ago.
When my sister Lauren and her husband Warren renewed their vows on their 10th anniversary, I used materials from my stash to make this fabric scroll. It featured 10 hearts (one for each year of wedded bliss). I enjoyed pulling together little bits and pieces I found amongst my treasures—hand-decorated fabrics, sequins, a few pearls, vintage seam binding, silk thread—and added a little bit of free-motion stitching and embroidery for emphasis. While there were no words on this “card,” I think the sentiment expressed was still easily understood. And my sister appreciated it so much that she had it framed. So show some love and make one-of-a-kind heartfelt greetings this year. If you’ve got any DIY Valentines underway, we’d love to hear about them.
Fabulous!
Thanks – it’s inspired me to make fabric Valentines again this year!
