I don’t know about where you’re reading this from, but it’s been really, really cold around Lark Land lately. Combine the plummeting mercury with a fresh blanket of deep, icy snow, and it’s enough to have me racing for my long johns, warmest wool scarf, and knee high socks. When I feel the adult in me whining at the prospect of driving in the slushy mess or how I’m going to stomach the upcoming heating bill, there’s one very simple thing that can make me fall in love with Winter all over again: hot cocoa. Whether it’s the convenient packets of powder I remember as a child warmed up and topped with an excessive amount of whipped cream or a more grown up version crafted on the stove from milk, cocoa powder, sugar and a hint of cinnamon and cayenne, hot chocolate has a way of warming my January blues and lifting my mood. You just can’t help but smile.
Was I ever surprised at the delectable cocoa treats awaiting me at Etsy: gourmet marshmallows in flavors from vanilla bean to peppermint, artisan cocoa mixes and recipes, mugs perfect for nestling in cupped hands, and charming craft creations from amigurumi and cross stitch to prints and paintings.
