We all gathered in the plush living room (not an everyday occurence), while eating latkes and taking the pivotal turn to light the candles. The fireplace roared while each little girl sat in anticipation and awe of their unique and special gift. It was a time to relax, sit together and share a tradition that dates back for centuries. I share this same experience with my friends and family knowing that my children will share it with the the next generation. Our menorahs will be dusted off soon, polished and placed on our table ready for 8 nights of gladness.

    Darcy says:

I started my love affair with beads very early… I was beading on a loom by age 7 and moved on to beadle point on needlepoint canvas and then embroidery. It was actually later that i did more simple stringing. I have been designing jewelry my entire life ( am about to turn 50) so really it is the only work I have ever done. ( well a couple of odd jobs and parenthood too)

I have loved Cathy Fillian ever since the very first days of her and Steve’s show “Creative Juice”. And I am sure anything she puts her hand to is going to be full of wonderful ideas.  One of my favorite t-shirts belonged to a friend who was in the middle of adopting a child from China.  Most pregnant women advertise an upcoming baby merely by their growing belly……that of course wasn’t possible for her.   So she had a t-shirt made that read “Pregnant on Paper”.  That way she could let anyone know she was “pregnant” without having to bring it up herself.

What a treasure to own all these books.  My favorite mediums are glass, metal and metal clay.

I’ve several books from this collection added to my design library, however it would be fantastic to own the complete set. The books that I own have always been an inspiration to me, and I am certain the other ones from this series would equally do so. Amongst my collection of jewelry design books, the “Lark Books” have by far the best images, overall format, demos and tips, which also make them frequent visitors on my lap. I’ve been a jewelry designer for 31 years and appreciate diverse jewelry practices, which is another draw to appreciating the selection of artists found in the “500 Series Books.” My favorite materials are aluminum, exotic woods, acrylic and copper. As a customer recently remarked at a recent “art & craft” venue, ” Your work is stunning and you wear your work well, …you’re your best “Billboard.”

I would love to win this contest as it would add so much value to my collection.

Winning this absolutely amazing contest for many reasons.  The best is that my email and username is “Smiletherapy4me” which is exactly what beading is to me. I am a disabled single mom who’s daughter is leaving for college in the next few months.  Being home alone all day long will be long and lonely.  What better than to read and be inspired by the beautiful books in the collection. My daughter says that  I collect beads and don’t do enough beading.  Well that would change with the addition of the library you offer.  Thank you and good luck to all that enter.

    Wildflower says:

Hello I love making Jewelry and wearing it and I would love to win these books because although I’ve been making jewelry for over 20 years I always love to learn something New everyday from something or someone or a book I’ve purchased some books before but I was blessed with a large family and I could’nt afford to purchase many books but thank god for the internet I would love these have these books my own jewelry making Library what a treat

Wow! What an awesome collection of books! Lark has the best books, and while I already own some, I’d LOVE LOVE LOVE to be the lucky recipient of the entire collection listed. I promise I’ll share the duplicates with my other “bead buddies” if I win! Truly inspirational photos and descriptions make these books a delight. A dream come true! Good luck to all entrants. Happy Holidays!

    Sandy Wogaman says:

Before I even get up in the morning, my brain is whirling. “Make a bracelet today, make earrings today, loom today, do bead crochet today.” Books help direct me, they spark my creativity, and they let me see what other artists think about!!

    Bonnie Cristi says:

Bonnie Cristi, I started teaching bead work to 3 year olds back in 1989 as an apartment manage and was so disappointed at how few books there were for bead work to refer to as I was only a beginner myself but it helped me develop a relationship with my residents. Now I am much older and live where there are mostly retired people so I teach to the Seniors as a community service for free and have been doing it for 10 years in Nevada. After coming from San Diego where beading is rich in knowledge books are all I have to refer to, but still our little library is still lacking in books and my resources are also lacking. Books are a wonderful source I use when someone asks me about something I have not tried and I am always happy we have so many writers now and more everyday. And the magazine, so many, I am thinking to get the gals hooked on steam punk as I have been taking apart a lot of old printers and cameras I bought at yard sales.

What a great contest, would love to share these books with friends and family.

    Heidi says:

I hate to say it, but Pinterest is what is inspiring me right now. Would love to have these books added to my library!

    Haurich1 says:

What fun this looks like! Re. favorite stores – it depends on what beads I’m needing. Each store specializes in different beads – I drive north when I need seed beads, south when I need Swarovskis or Bali, I can walk to the store that has a decent supply of natural stones and findings, and I know of one that has a good selection of lampwork beads.

    Lalaroro says:

Diane Fitzgerald is a wonderful teacher and her written patterns are easy to follow. I’ve been working on her Fortune Teller beaded necklace from the .pdf posted on the Lark Books web site. I tried netting unsuccessfully in the past. Her diagrams are very clear and I did not get lost on the first row as usual. I am generally not a seed bead person but this necklace inspired me with the glow of the colored resin beads through the netting. I am basically a bead stringer, glass fuser and I do some enamel on copper for jewelry. I would love to have her new Lark book. I belong to three beading groups, two in Arizona and one in NH, so I am a serious jewelry maker. My best local bead shop is Creative Destinations in Mesa, AZ. It’s a bit of a trip for me but they have a very complete selection of quality seed beads and a very helpful and friendly staff.

Would love to win this pin for my 14 yr old great-niece! This is her favorite movie and I loved it too!

    Grandmomma says:

I would love to be able to win this pin for my 12-year old great-granddaughter. She read all three of the books in the series last year and convinced me that I should read at least the first book before seeing the movie. The movie was good, but the books are better – that is both of our opinions.
Having that pin to wear would really please her.

I love to attach fabric and scrap paper to stuff. I love Mod Podge!

    Njacobso says:

I currently use Mod Podge in many of my art, fabric and jewelry making projects. I love to adhere fabric scraps and other items to create jewelry or mod podge over transfers that I create on fabric.    We are in the process of opening an arts center in our community.  We have partnered with a church and are turning the basement into a wonderful place for adults and children to learn a variety of the arts. As soon as we finish painting we will be up and running.  On the agenda are art classes and performing arts auditions for adults and children.  There is already a list of teachers who have volunteered to teach and a list of upcoming classes to sign up for. We plan to have an art library with as many books and creative art magazines available as possible.  This book would be a wonderful addition to the new library.

When reflecting back to the most meaningful present I’ve ever given, I would have to say I handbeaded a beautiful jade bead rosary for my very religious mother. She has since passed on, but I still have that rosary and it reminds me of how happy she was to receive it and pray with it:)

Our daughter last year asked me to make her something special for Valentine’s Day. So I made her a Teddy Bear Pin, and a Heart Barett. She loves it so much she has asked to wear it every day since. Seeing smiles are the best gift a mom can ever get. I get asked to this day where she got them and she says my mommy made them for me.
